Frequently Asked Questions
Who is behind this newsletter?
My name is Matt Compton. I'm a self-described "geek" and I love going to the various cons near me. Sometimes I even cosplay as the 10th Doctor.
What type of events do you include?
Anything that would fall under "fandom", and even a few that might not.
- Comic cons
- Anime cons
- Horror cons
- Fan events related to specific movies & TV shows
- Gaming events (both video games and tabletop games)
- Collectible & Toy shows
- Genre film festivals
- Renaissance festivals
- Events that encourage cosplay
- Special movie screenings (for instance, anniversary screenings of sci-fi/fantasy/horror classics)
- In-store signings by celebrities related to the sci-fi/fantasy/anime/horror genres
Why did you create it?
I found there were too many websites listing events, and none of them listed everything. I didn't want to have to look at multiple sites each month to find these types of events near me; I wanted an easy way to know about all of them. I went looking for a resource like this, and when I didn't find one, I decided to create it. (Yes, I know… there's a bit of irony there!) This is my way of giving something back to the geek community – a community I've been a part of almost my entire life.
I see you ask for donations. Do you make money from this?
Currently, I do not. As I gain more subscribers, I hope to one day interest some companies in becoming sponsors. For now, since I don't make any money from it, I ask for donations to help cover the costs (web hosting, email service provider, etc). If you'd like to donate but would rather not do it via the Buy Me A Coffee website, send me a message via the Contact page and I'll reply with my PayPal/Venmo/Zelle information.
How many events do you have in your database?
At last count, I have over 2,000 events from across the United States.
Where do you find events?
There are numerous websites that list events; some specific to geek culture, some not. I look at all of them each month to try to make sure I find as many as possible. The other way is from people like you! Someone will send me the name and website of an event, and that's a great help. To let me know about an event, please visit the Contact page.
Do you list events outside of the United States?
Not at the moment. I may eventually expand to include international events, but I decided to start with the United States and see how it goes. If there's enough demand for events outside the U.S., I'm certainly willing to consider expanding the list.
Do you share/sell the email addresses of your subscribers?
Absolutely not. I hate getting spam just as much as the next person, and the last thing I want is for you to get any more of it than you already do. You have my word that I will not share your email address with anyone. You can review the Privacy Policy for more information.
Are you interested in hearing from subscribers about what they like/don't like about the newsletter?
Yes! I absolutely want to hear from anyone who'd like to share their feedback. More than anything, I want this newsletter to be something you look forward to getting each month. If you have thoughts on how I can improve it, I'm all ears. Drop me a line via the Contact page.
